Liminal & Ink
On the 8th of April, I was selected to participate in a wonderful art event called “ Sheikh Abriek” - more than 120 artists from all over Israel came and took over a whole village in the north of the country.
In this event, I was part of an art collective called “Liminali” with around 20 artists from different backgrounds and mediums. Our collective specialized in live - experimental & performative events, where there is no “end product “ and the creation is the process itself.
For 3 days I was co-creating together with a “Shibari” ( The beauty of tight binding) artist named Hadas Toval and a group of 5 performers (some were dancers and others had a theater background.)
We didn’t know what to expect as it was the first time for both of us, to work with a group of strangers and combine these 2 ancient techniques - Calligraphy and Shibari.
I can’t go into many details… but we discovered it’s an extremely powerful ritual. The dynamics between the rope, the ink, and the bodies involved created a mysterious cosmic play, and our group went through a very deep process.
Some experienced extremely strong emotions. Many were facing their own fears, insecurities, and lots of past beliefs about their bodies and how the group is perceiving them.
After each session, we had a small sharing circle, meditation, and a Japanese tea ceremony. We could process together with the group many things on an emotional level, some said it was a healing experience for them while others confronted their fears and managed to break through…
I’m very honored for the trust the group placed in us and for the opportunity to be part of an empowering practice that can help people to grow, and for us as artists to express ourselves in a poetic, beautiful and powerful way.
Thank you so much.
Bless
D
